It won’t need to be supported by the ropes/pulleys when I’m sleeping in it – it already has a bed frame on the floor. So the ropes/pulleys only need to be able to support it securely when it’s raised to the ceiling. It’s a heavy mattress, though – not only is it CA King, but it’s also a pillowtop, so it’s thick. The materials will need to be pretty sturdy.

It would have to be something that wouldn’t modify/damage the walls or ceiling of my room, so it would have to be a self-supporting frame (i.e. nothing attached to the ceiling or walls).

I have a handheld circular saw, a small workbench, a couple of handheld drills, and other basic tools, which you can use. Anything more advanced you might have to supply on your own (ask me to check whether I have it).

I’m happy to help with the labor if you want help actually putting it together, or if you just want company while working on it. I’m familiar with woodworking tools.

I’m willing to sign a contract that absolves you of liability if the frame breaks – I’ll just need to see the plans for the frame, and see it as it’s being built, so I feel confident about it.

Here’s a website I found that shows one simple way the system could be designed. And here’s a really cool counterweighted bed system, but this would be a lot more complicated, and I wouldn’t need something like that – it’s more just food for thought.

House will not be occupied 4 days per week. 3 days per week, the kids or grandparents will sleep over. Nice 4 bedroom house, with pool, jacuzzi near Oak and 14th – furnished. Use of a car is an option.

Duties:
For Kids
1. Driving kids to soccer, music lessons, etc..
2. Tutoring, oversee instrument practice, etc.
3. Preparing healthy meals
4. Putting them to sleep, preparing breakfast, taking them to school

For Grandparents:
1. Preparing healthy meals in the evening
2. Helping them with erands, internet orders, and other assorted support. 3. Spending some social time with them talking over herbal tea in the evening.

The kids are easy, sweet, lovable, well behaved, normal kids.
The grandparents are slowing down but with plenty of energy and a wealth of rich worldly experience. The grandmother has some short-term memory loss but functions far better outside of their house 20 minutes from Davis. The grandfather is a former orthospedic surgeon  with relatively mild Parkinson’s. He is deep and wise but slow with physical tasks; his mind is still sharp.

- Free rent, unoccupied 4 days a week
- Potential use of car.
- Actual costs (i.e. – food, gas to run errands, etc.) reimbursed.
- Payment negotiated in person depending upon agreed duties and timing
- Starting September 1 and ending May 30 with options to start sooner or end later.
