Help offered in writing or delivering your speech

Hello,

Are you working on a speech, either for work or school or as a hobby?  Do you want a seasoned Toastmasters Club member (16 years experience) to give you feedback and suggestions on your speech content or delivery?

Whether you are just starting and have no idea what your speech will be about or you have already written the speech and just want to deliver it and receive feedback, I can help by evaluating your speech and provide specific suggestions.  Keep in mind that you are the author of your speech and you are free to use or not use any suggestions :)

Public speaking can be scary but it can also be rewarding.  Your best ally is excellent preparation.  Having a speech that you know is very good, that has a beginning, middle and end, that is organized in such a way to achieve your intended purpose.  Speeches usually are meant to inform, to persuade, to inspire or to entertain.  Some speeches combine those goals.  We can sit down and analyze your speech, both in the big picture and in the details, to make sure that it is organized to help you achieve your communication goals.

Speech delivery is the other half of the battle.  You want to appear friendly and comfortable, fully in control of your speech.  You want to connect with your audience and leave a lasting impression.  There are some very simple steps you can take to connect with your audience, of any size, to accomplish this.

Are you planning on using Power Point in your speech?  Power Point can be very helpful but it also presents challenges.  Nobody wants to hear you read your slides.  Your ppt presentation is your ally in communicating with your audience, or it can be if you prepare it right.  There are several key things to know about using a ppt in your speech.

How do you deliver your speech without relying heavily on notes?  I will coach you on that.

Humor is one of your best tools in communicating with your audience.  You can put them at ease and help them relax and open up to you and your message.

Stories are excellent tools in writing a speech.  People love to hear stories because they tend to want to know what happened and they identify with the key figure in the story, wanting them to succeed.

That is a key thing to know; your audience wants you to succeed.  They want you to deliver a successful speech.  They want to receive, to hear and see a successful speech.  They are your natural allies.  It is all a matter of making it happen.

I will meet with you for 1 hour in exchange for 10 Davis dollars to work on your speech.

About Mark Graham

I joined a Toastmasters Club for the first time in 1995 in Ogden, Utah. Yes I lived in Utah for 5 years in Layton. I belonged to that Club until I left Utah in the summer of 2000. Upon arriving in Davis that year I joined the Town and Gown Toastmasters Club in Davis. I have been a member ever since then. My favorite aspect of Toastmasters is helping people put together their speeches. Whether you are just starting out or you have already written your speech and want to deliver it and get some helpful feedback, I can help.
